Lifecycle NotesThe larvae initially feed on the flowers and seeds of gentian plants, then drop to the ground and are adopted by specific Myrmica ant species, which carry them into their nests. Inside the ant nest, the larvae are predatory, feeding on ant larvae until pupation.
Identification TipsLook for the distinctive pattern of black spots ringed in white on the light brown underside of the wings. The upperside is typically blue, more intensely so in males. It is usually found in habitats where its host plants (Marsh Gentian or Willow Gentian) and specific Myrmica ant species are present.
