Lifecycle NotesLarvae are loopers (inchworms) that feed on the leaves of various deciduous trees in spring. Pupation occurs in the soil, and adults emerge in late fall to early winter. Females are flightless with reduced wings.
Identification TipsMales have fully developed wings with a distinctive mottled grey and white pattern, often appearing 'frosted'. Females are flightless. It can be distinguished from the similar Winter Moth (Operophtera brumata) by subtle differences in wing markings and geographic range.

Description

A small moth with mottled grey and white forewings, featuring several indistinct dark, wavy transverse lines and a speckled appearance, providing excellent camouflage.
