Lifecycle NotesLarvae are borers, feeding internally within the roots and lower stems of ironweed plants. Pupation occurs in the soil, and adults emerge in late summer and early fall.
Identification TipsLook for its distinctive yellowish-orange coloration with prominent dark brown, somewhat checkered or striped patterns on the wings. The banded antennae are also a helpful feature. Its strong association with ironweed host plants is a key indicator.
Description
A medium-sized moth with yellowish-orange forewings and hindwings. The forewings feature a darker orange-brown basal area and a distinct pattern of dark brown lines forming a somewhat reticulated or striped appearance, particularly on the outer half. The hindwings are paler yellow with fainter brown lines.
