Description

The Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) is a striking and well-known migratory butterfly. Its wings are predominantly black with a distinctive bright orange-red band across the forewings and a submarginal orange-red band on the hindwings. White spots are typically present near the apex of the forewings. The underside of the hindwings is mottled brown, providing excellent camouflage when at rest. It is a strong flyer and is often observed nectaring on flowers or feeding on fermenting fruit.
