Description

The Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) is a well-known medium-sized butterfly characterized by its striking black wings with prominent orange-red bands across the forewings and along the hindwing margins. It also features white spots near the apex of the forewings. The underside of the hindwings is mottled brown and black, providing excellent camouflage when at rest. Adults typically have a wingspan of 45–60 mm (1.8–2.4 inches).
