Description
The Mourning Cloak (Nymphalis antiopa) is a large, distinctive butterfly known for its dark, velvety maroon to black wings, bordered by a broad, pale yellow or cream band and a row of iridescent blue spots just inside the border. It is one of the longest-lived butterflies, often overwintering as an adult, making it one of the first species to be seen in early spring.
