Description
The Red-spotted Purple is a striking subspecies of the White Admiral butterfly, characterized by its iridescent blue-black wings. Unlike its northern counterpart, it lacks the prominent white band across the wings, instead displaying a row of red-orange spots on the hindwings. This butterfly is a classic example of Batesian mimicry, closely resembling the unpalatable Pipevine Swallowtail (Battus philenor) to deter predators.
