Description

The larva (caterpillar) of Papilio polytes is typically green with diagonal white or yellowish stripes on its sides. It possesses a pair of osmeteria, a fleshy, forked organ usually hidden behind the head, which can be everted when threatened, emitting a foul odor. Mature larvae often have markings that resemble snake eyes, providing camouflage or mimicry against predators.
