Description

The Large Heath is a small to medium-sized butterfly, typically exhibiting a brownish-orange coloration. Its underside, particularly the hindwings, often features a variable number of small, ringed eyespots (ocelli), which can differ significantly in prominence and quantity across subspecies and geographic ranges. The upper side is generally plain brown or orange-brown. It is known for its relatively weak, fluttering flight.
