Description
Cracker butterflies are a genus of brush-footed butterflies (Nymphalidae) known for their unique ability to produce a distinct 'cracking' or 'clicking' sound, primarily by the males, by rubbing their wings together. They often perch head-down on tree trunks, where their cryptic undersides provide excellent camouflage resembling tree bark. Their upper wings typically display patterns of blue, red, or white spots on a dark background.
