Description

The Palos Verdes Blue is a small butterfly, typically with a wingspan of about 1 inch (2.5 cm). Males have iridescent blue wings with a narrow black border, while females are typically duller blue or brownish-gray with some blue scaling near the body and often a row of orange spots on the hindwings. The underside of both sexes is grayish with black spots and a row of orange spots on the hindwings. It is known for its short flight period, usually in late winter to early spring.
