Lifecycle NotesEggs are laid singly on host plants, and the larvae are typically flattened and slug-like. Like many Lycaenids, its caterpillars may have a symbiotic relationship with ants.
Identification TipsKey features include its relatively large size for an *Arhopala* and the distinct pattern of dark brown spots and bands on the dull brown underside. The brilliant blue upperside of males is also a strong identifier.
Description
This butterfly displays a cryptic underside, mottled in shades of brown and grey with irregular darker spots and bands, providing excellent camouflage. Its upperside, not visible in this image, is typically a brilliant iridescent blue.
