Lifecycle NotesEggs are laid singly on host grasses. Larvae are typically green or brown, feeding on grass blades. Pupation occurs on or near the host plant.
Identification TipsDistinguished by its dull brown coloration and the distinct pattern of eyespots on the underside of both forewings and hindwings, particularly the two larger ones on the hindwing and one on the forewing, often with a pale submarginal line.
Description
A medium-sized brown butterfly with a dull brown upperside and a slightly lighter brown underside featuring a series of prominent black eyespots with white pupils and yellowish-orange rings, particularly noticeable on the hindwing and forewing. A pale submarginal band is also present on the underside.
