Lifecycle NotesEggs are laid in a ring around a twig. Larvae are gregarious, living communally in a large silk tent (web) on host plants, and are dark with orange markings. Pupation occurs in a tough, egg-shaped cocoon in the soil or leaf litter.
Identification TipsLook for the distinctive mottled brown and grey forewings with a single prominent white spot on each. The moth has a very hairy body and a stout build. The gregarious larvae in their silk tents are also a key identifier.

Description

A medium-sized, stout-bodied moth with densely hairy brown and grey mottled forewings, each featuring a prominent white central spot. Its body is very furry, giving it a 'fluffy' appearance.
