Lifecycle NotesEggs are laid in batches on nettle leaves. Caterpillars are spiny, black with yellow stripes, and feed communally. Adults often hibernate in sheltered locations during winter.
Identification TipsKey features include the bright orange wings with prominent black and yellow/white markings on the forewings, and a row of blue spots within the black border of the hindwings. The underside is cryptically dark brown.
