Identification TipsLook for the intricate orange and dark brown checkered pattern on the upperside of the wings, especially the two prominent black eyespots on the hindwings. Its fast, darting flight and habit of basking on bare ground are also characteristic.

Description

A medium-sized butterfly with a striking pattern of bright orange-yellow patches and dark brown to black bands across its wings. The hindwings prominently display two large black eyespots, while the forewings have smaller, less distinct eyespots.
