Lifecycle NotesEggs are laid singly on grass blades. Larvae are green with a dark dorsal line and feed on various grasses. Pupae are typically green or brown and suspended head-down.
Identification TipsLook for the distinctive orange-brown ground color with dark brown checkered markings. A key feature is the single large, black eyespot with a white pupil near the apex of the forewing, and a row of smaller eyespots on the hindwing.
Description
A medium-sized butterfly with orange-brown wings marked with dark brown patterns and prominent eyespots. The dorsal side features a large eyespot on the forewing and smaller ones on the hindwing, while the ventral side is cryptically patterned with wavy lines and eyespots.
