Lifecycle NotesEggs are laid singly on host grasses. Larvae are green with a dark head, feeding on grasses and constructing silk-lined shelters. Pupation occurs in a loose cocoon near the ground.
Identification TipsLook for the bright orange upperside with dark borders. Males have a distinct black stigma on the forewing. Females have more extensive dark markings and often a row of dark spots on the hindwing underside.
Description
A small, robust skipper with bright fiery orange wings, dark brown borders, and a yellowish-green body. Males feature a prominent black stigma on the forewing.
