Description
The Ulysses butterfly, also known as the Blue Mountain Swallowtail, is a large, striking swallowtail butterfly native to northeastern Australia, New Guinea, and surrounding islands. It is renowned for its iridescent blue wings, which appear to change color with the angle of light due to structural coloration rather than pigment. The underside of the wings is a duller black and brown, providing camouflage when at rest. Males are often seen patrolling forest edges and gardens, while females are more elusive.
