Description

The Small Tortoiseshell (*Aglais urticae*) is a medium-sized butterfly easily recognized by its striking orange-red wings adorned with black and yellow patches, and a row of blue spots along the wing margins. The underside of the wings is a cryptic dark brown, providing camouflage. It is a common and widespread species, often seen in gardens and open countryside.
