Description
The Common Blue is a small butterfly exhibiting strong sexual dimorphism. Males have iridescent violet-blue upperwings with a narrow black border and white fringe. Females are typically brown on the upperwings, often with a variable amount of blue scaling near the body, and a row of orange spots along the hindwing margin. Both sexes feature greyish-brown undersides with a series of black spots ringed with white, and a prominent row of orange spots on the hindwing.
