Description

The Milbert's Tortoiseshell is a medium-sized butterfly characterized by its striking dorsal wing pattern. The upperside of the wings is predominantly orange-brown, featuring a distinctive broad, bright yellow or orange submarginal band that is bordered by black. The forewings typically have two or three black spots and a black apex. The hindwings also display black spots. The underside of the wings is mottled brown and grey, providing excellent camouflage when the butterfly is at rest. Larvae feed primarily on nettles (Urtica species).
